Asics brought forth a range of very capable, yet affordable shoes and continued to do so when they launched the upgrade of the 1140. The latest shoe is the 1150, which has a much smaller gel unit than all the predecessors in the Asics range. Even so it is also the softest shoe in their category and runners who need great cushioning and have normal arches can try the shoe.
The support system is not very good and offers rather mild and neutral support, but not a bad buy if the budget does not allow a more expensive shoe. A runner knows when a shoe is not supportive enough and also knows that a shoe can be too supportive and they may need less motion control. The wrong choice in the shoe can let you develop pain in your knees and shins, thus it is recommended not to buy after the name of the shoe, but instead look at the different dimensions of the shoe compared to your running gait.
Runners in need of a neutral shoe that offers good medial stability will benefit from this shoe, specifically the 1150. Asics did release the 1160 recently, but it is not tested yet, so runners should wait and see the reviews on it while they try out the 1150. This shoe falls into the stability category and you will know that while it gives decent cushioning it is important to have a normal arch in order to receive adequate support from it.
It will not qualify as a great racing shoe as it is not particularly light, but the weight will not be an issue when used for training and some races. Some runners do run half marathons in the Asics gel 1150, but it has not been seen used in short races. It does sound as if can be on the heavy side, but in fact it is exactly what you will expect of a stability shoe.
It is in fact a shoe which is comfortable enough to wear on an everyday basis around the house and when you take into consideration the comfort you need when using a shoe for that reason, it spells out that it may not be suitable for quick sprints. At the price, nobody can really complain as runners profess that they average about 300 miles with these shoes and you can just pop them in the washing machine now and then.
